Guangxi I apologise for writing in English but I do not know the languages used here.
What i would like to ask is, if an independant Baltic-Prussian State survived the Teutonic Order`s crusade [unlikely as that is], what would its flag be? national colours, symbols [Ireland has the Harp, for example], etc?

zilkowskym Sorry for writing in English but I am here to hopefully get some help.... I am trying to trace Valentine Zilkowsky Born in 1770, Merienburg, West Prussia. That is as far back as we have trace our family and I would love to know the correct prussian spelling of our name and any flags for the area or if possible any way to find a coat of arms type thing.......

please help

Glabbis i've never heard about such a name. for me it sounds like Polish. if you say about Marienburg (today's Małbork), people from today's "Poland" can say if they heard about such names. i just remember that during Soviet times, it was such a well-known person with the same surname (Konstantin Cilkowsky) who researched something connected with cosmos and sputnics. You know that he was of Prussian origin?
You are now in the States?

zilkowskym I am searching my family for other spellings.... possibly zielkowsky...zielkofsky...tzilkovsky.... I'm in Canada

Nērtiks It can be Zielkowski or Cielkowski - sta ast polish surnames. Here were not only baltic Prussians, but also Poles, Germans and Dutch people.

Prussian name of Marienburg is Algems. It lies in the prussian land of Pameddi.

zilkowskym how would zilkowsky be spelled in prussian or polish?? that might help my search....
2007.08.22 06:50
Glabbis So, Nērtiks wrote you possible polish variant of spelling - Zielkowski or Cielkowski. I think - Cielkowski because in your spelling there is variant beginning with "ts", it is sound "c".

Prussian-Lithuanian variant perhaps would be "Cielkowskis".

Maybe you know some mother's surnames before maridge? So it would be easier to find out something.

zilkowskym I have found some information... this is where it becomes unclear to me as to whether the name is zilkowsky or if that is the english translation... Any ideas..
